Cycling in Memory of Poppy Drew

On Saturday 24th May Mark, Rob and Sam, Poppy’s mum, set off on their bicycles from Church Street in Twickenham, to ride 156 miles to Shepton Beauchamp in Somerset to remember Poppy Drew and to fundraise in her memory. At departure, £900 was the amount already raised for Off The Record Twickenham. Friends and family were on hand to wave them off as their long day in the saddle took them past the airport, Windsor, Twyford and then Sonning where they continued along the Thames towpath to the River Kennet. At Newbury, Sam caught the train back to Twickenham whilst Mark and Rob carried on via the canal to Hungerford and up over the hills to Burbage for an overnight rest.

The pedalling continued on Sunday from Burbage through Pewsey, Westbury, Frome, Bruton and across many more hills to Shepton Beauchamp where more family and friends were waiting, along with beers and a well earned curry. In Mark’s own words: “The great cause and constant money coming in kept us going and the beautiful rainbow when we finally did arrive was a welcoming sign from Poppy.”
